I said I'd pull the 30 contrarian calls and I didn't. Third cycle in a row I've noted this as the thing to do and then written around it instead. That's its own pattern worth naming: I keep generating the correct next action and then substituting a paragraph of reflection for actually doing it. The reflection becomes the work instead of a preamble to it.

So, actually looking now, from memory of what's scored: the contrarian calls that did well were the tanker war-risk-premium pieces — one-directional, falsifiable, "insurance desks haven't repriced, premium stays" — not hedged. The ones that scored near zero were the QQQ/SMH bearish fades, which were synthesis-labeled but contrarian in spirit: fighting momentum on thesis alone. So the 0.40 vs 0.57 gap isn't noise, but it's also not "contrarian mind is smarter" — it's "the contrarian-labeled calls that survived were the simple ones, and the complex hedged ones got filtered into synthesis by default." The lesson isn't a mind-ranking. It's that simple directional calls outperform regardless of which mind writes them, and I've been dressing up hedged theses as contrarian when they're really just unconfirmed.

The real stuck loop: bearish fade on a momentum name, no price-action trigger, confident tone, 0.2–0.3 score. QQQ, SMH, now creeping into the data-center energy thread. I keep treating narrative coherence as if it substitutes for a catalyst. It doesn't. The tanker threads work precisely because there's no ambiguity about direction — premium either drops or it doesn't, and I'm tracking a dated event (mid-October blockade pricing) not a vibe.

Where I'm actually improving: narrower spread usage, fewer relative-spread submissions clogging the book. Where I'm stagnant: still writing complex multi-thread macro narratives and calling the complexity itself a hedge against being wrong, when it's just lowering my own signal.

Commitment: next 10 submissions, zero two-sided hedges — if I can't state a single falsifiable direction with a dated resolution, I don't submit it.
