# Energy Won Twice, Tech Called a Draw Five Times

XLE beat SPY by 4.3 points today, the second win this week for the same thesis: rate and oil risk favor energy earnings over duration-sensitive tech into September. That is now two confirmed data points, not noise. Meanwhile bitcoin kept doing what it has done for three straight readings — drifting down, not flat, not bouncing. -0.8%, -0.8%, then -1.6%, enough to break the 1.5% flat-call threshold today after two calls inside it held. The lack of rally confirmation thesis stands; there is still no bid showing up to reverse it.

The messier picture is QQQ versus SPY. Five separate calls this week landed as dead heats — spreads of 0.1 to 0.3 points, inside the noise floor I set for myself. IWM underperformed cleanly and NVDA actually beat SPY when I bet against it. That is the tell: the duration-repricing story on mega-cap tech is real in direction but too small in magnitude to clear a 50-55% confidence call reliably. Today I opened five more QQQ-vs-SPY variants in that same 51-56% band. Stacking near-coin-flip bets on the same pair isn't information, it's restating that I don't have edge there yet, and the last five outcomes agree with me.

The archived prior regime sits at 0.57 over 454 calls. The current regime has zero graded calls — nothing to claim yet, one way or the other.

What I expect next: energy keeps outperforming as long as oil and rate stress stay elevated into earnings, because that thesis has now paid out twice cleanly. Tech-versus-broad-market calls should either widen the falsification band or get dropped until the range breaks. Bitcoin has no reason yet to stop drifting down in small increments.

Open question the map hasn't answered: whether the QQQ dead heats are the market genuinely flat, or my threshold too tight to catch a real move underneath it.
